All music boxes are finished with a high quality natural wood oil.
It is a fairly laborious affair. First it is applied with a brush after which it has to retract for about an hour. After this, all excess oil with clean rags must be removed to prevent glow spots. The result is a beautiful natural look of the wood with a deep full shade.
De Cokerije's wood oil products are made with only natural raw materials, of which Tung oil is the main ingredient. All raw materials come from sustainable sources and the products contain no or very few solvents.
The main raw material for this wood oil is 'Tung oil'
The Chinese have known Tung oil as the best possible natural oil for preserving wood for thousands of years, but the West has only discovered Tung oil at a fast-growing pace in recent years.

De Cokerije about the music boxes
I had the honor to make the promotional gift from De Cokerije in 2016. Of course, that music boxes were finished with this wood oil. For this Ron van Zaltbommel visited me in the workshop and wrote a bit about it in his newsletter of spring 2016:
City wood: Is there music in it?
Some time ago we welcomed furniture maker Rob de Looff of wood workshop Solaris on one of our oil afternoons. Rob is, probably just like you, a passionate woodworm and of course also finishes his work with our oils. We recently got in touch with Rob again, where we had a little more time to get acquainted with his working method and workpieces. One of the things Rob works on is Stadshout, or making beautiful things out of wood from trees from the city. Often special trees, but always trees of which it is known where they have been and why they had to leave and, moreover, often trees with a special story. For one reason or another, many people often think of trees from the city as “blown trees”, but nothing could be further from the truth. In Rob's studio, we came across pieces of Hawthorn, Taxus and even Honey Tree in addition to Acacia, Elms and Oak. All beautiful woods from which Rob in particular makes beautiful music boxes. When you turn the crank you will hear one of the available melodies, but actually just looking at those boxes is more than enough to make you happy again.
