All music boxes are finished with a high quality natural wood oil.
It is a fairly laborious affair. First it is applied with a brush after which it has to retract for about an hour. After this, all excess oil with clean rags must be removed to prevent glow spots. The result is a beautiful natural look of the wood with a deep full shade.
The wood oil products from De Cokerije are made using only natural raw materials of which Tung oil is the most important ingredient. All raw materials come from sustainable sources and the products contain no or only very few solvents.
The most important raw material for this wood oil is 'Tung oil'
The Chinese have known Tung oil for thousands of years as the best possible natural oil to preserve wood, but the West has only recently discovered Tungo oil at a fast-growing pace.

De Cokerije about the music boxes
I had the honor to make the promotional gift from De Cokerije in 2016. Of course, that music boxes were finished with this wood oil. For this Ron van Zaltbommel visited me in the workshop and wrote a bit about it in his newsletter of spring 2016:
City wood: Is there music in it?
Some time ago we were allowed to receive furniture maker Rob de Looff from Solaris wood studio on one of our oil afternoons. Rob is, probably just like you, a passionate wood worm and naturally also finishes his work with our oils. Recently we came in contact with Rob again, where we had a little more time to get acquainted with his working methods and papers. One of the things Rob is involved in is Urban Wood, or making beautiful things out of wood from trees in the city. Often special trees but always trees where they know where they stood and why they had to leave and often trees with a special story. With trees from the city, for some reason, many people quickly think of "vanishing trees" but nothing is less true. In Rob's studio we came across pieces such as Hawthorn, yew and even honey tree in addition to Acacia, Iepen and Oak. Each and every piece of beautiful wood types, which makes Rob especially beautiful music boxes. When you turn the handle you hear one of the available melodies but actually just looking at those boxes is more than enough to be completely happy again. Want to know more about Rob's activities or his special music boxes? Then visit his site full of musical wood!
